Fast Hydrating Guar FANN Viscosity Test Method

Linear Gel Viscosity:

  • Make 2% KCL solution by adding 5 gm of KCL to 250 + 0.5 gm of de-ionized water in a waring blender.
  • While mixing the solution in waring blender at 1500 + 25 RPM add 1.2 gm of guar powder to the edge of the vortex within 5 seconds and start the stopwatch immediately.
  • Mix for 150 seconds (2.5 min) after guar is added.
  • Quickly transfer about 175 ml of fluid into beaker and place on the FANN 35 with R1B1 rotor/Bob or equivalent, 02 torsion spring preferred.
  • At exactly 3 minutes total time elapsed (Including 150 seconds of mixing above) record the viscosity at 300 rpm.
Continue stirring at 300 rpm and record viscosity at 10 minutes and then turn off viscometer.
  • Allow the gel to contnue to hydrate at 25.0 }5.0 degree C and without shear.
  • Record the pH of the guar solution at 30 minutes using a properly calibrated pH meter.
  • At 60 min (1hr) total elapsed time, place the sample beaker on the Fann 35 viscometer and set speed to 300 RPM. Record the dial reading after sample has been sheared for 30 seconds.
